The Graduate Emphasis in Curatorial Practice is available to students in the following programs: Students in other programs who are interested in the emphasis should contact the Graduate Enrollment Advisor (currently Ken Dippong, [email protected]), the director of the MFA for Curatorial Practice and/or the Office of Graduate Studies.
This special topics course, selected by the second-year cohort, closely examines a specific medium, movement, or cultural phenomenon and its relation to curatorial practice. Workshops and lectures by visiting guests offer critical and theoretical frameworks in conjunction with paired readings and student-led presentations.
Mica painting refers to adding a mixture of oil and mica to the top of wet cold process soap. This mixture is then swirled in various patterns. As the soap hardens in the mold, the oil is absorbed into the soap and leaves behind beautiful swirls of mica. It usually takes a full day for the oil of the mica mixture to sink back into the soap.
