In the DC3300 the motor is mounted to the back wall pf the fan housing. Whatever air flow there might have been it had to be drawn through some tiny cracks around the motor.
Used the exact same hose too. The dust pickup looked the same to me. So for me the only advantage for buying the DC6000 upgrade was retiring a 1996 1/2 hp motor with a less noisy motor, the introductory price of $279.99, and the $30.00 gift card. I have always been loyal to ShopSmith and overall I am okay with my purchase of the upgrade.

Keep in mind that all Shopsmith equipment is designed for a single 2 1/4" dust port hookup, so this limits the airflow significantly. Unless you hack the ports on all the equipment, the min airflow needed is only 136 CFM at the port assuming the minimum 4000ft/min needed and the area of the port (FPM=CFM/duct area).
